What Foods Give You Energy Post Pregnancy

What Foods Give You Energy Post Pregnancy
OK, all you new mommies… time to wake up! Are you tired of having no energy since you’ve had your bundle of joy? Newborns definitely keep you busy, busy, busy, not to mention waking you up in the night fairly often, especially in the beginning. I remember feeling almost zombie-like some days when my girls were newborns. Well, eating the right kind of foods will help you out with that. So, what foods give you energy post pregnancy you ask? Let’s discuss:
1. Whole Grains. Starting your morning with a bowl of whole grain cereal (hot or cold), is going to give you a nice energy boost to start your day. Eating whole grain foods in general is a good habit to stick to when you want to keep your energy up. They are rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. They will not only help keep your energy going, but they’ll also help you feel full for longer periods of time, help keep you regular (this is a great thing for new moms as constipation can be a problem for many), help protect against things like heart disease, certain types of cancer and type 2 diabetes. Some examples of whole grain foods are: whole wheat pasta, brown rice, whole wheat crackers, whole grain bread, oatmeal and whole grain cereal.
2. Legumes. When wondering what foods give you energy post pregnancy, legumes are great… and inexpensive! They are packed with folic acid, iron and magnesium. They are also low in fat and high in protein and fiber. Some legume examples are: red kidney beans, lima beans, chickpeas, black beans, lentils, soybeans, green beans, green peas and snow peas. Add them to chili, salsa, salads!
3. Blueberries. These little low calorie morsels are a great source of fiber and contain iron as well as vitamins B, C and E to give you an energy boost! They also contain anthocyanins, which is the pigment that gives the blueberry it’s blue colouring, which may help to prevent cancer, heart disease and memory loss. Some suggest that they also help eye sight. Another interesting study from the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center suggests that blueberries may help to reduce belly fat (great news for new moms trying to lose a baby belly!).
4. Eggs. Eggs contain 5-6 grams of protein which is going to give you energy and as well as help to keep you feeling full longer. They have been shown to be great for weight management which is going to be great for you if you are attempting to lose post pregnancy weight. A large egg contains only 5 grams of fat and 70 calories. When considering what foods give you energy, it is best to eat the whole egg (yolks and all!) to get the full effect of its energy potential. Eggs also contain choline, which is great for brain function and development. They also contain nutrients such as folate, iron, zinc, and vitamins A, B12, D, and E.
5. Hummus. Hummus is a dip with chickpeas as the main ingredient. It is a great source of fiber, protein, iron and vitamin C. Use it as a dip for veggies such as carrots or whole grain crackers or whole pita slices.
6. Vitamin C. Eating foods rich in vitamin C are great for keeping your energy levels up. Some examples are papayas, strawberries, kiwi fruit, apples, oranges, bell peppers, broccoli and pineapple.
7. Trail Mix. When thinking about what foods give you energy post pregnancy, trail mix is an excellent choice! You can combine ingredients like dried fruit, nuts, seeds and whole grain and/or high fiber cereals. Your boost of energy will come from the carbohydrates in the dried fruit and you get sustained energy from the protein and mono and polyunsaturated fats in the nuts. You also get a good dose of fiber with trail mix. Some examples can be: dried fruit (cranberries, apricots, raisins), nuts (almonds, pistachios, peanuts), seeds (pumpkin, sunflower) and cereals (Multigrain Cheerios, Frosted Mini Wheats Bite Size).

Why Bio-Identical Hormones and Hormone Creams Can Be Dangerous

Why Bio-Identical Hormones and Hormone Creams Can Be Dangerous
When we hear the word “hormones”, often we think of “female” hormones, and female “issues”,and cranky, emotional women at “certain times of the month”. It’s not exactly a compliment to be referred to as “hormonal”, now is it?
In reality, hormones are serious business. They are critical components of our body’s master communication systems, transmitting messages from various glands to the appropriate receptor sites on cells in order to create the desired outcome. Each hormone has a very specific receptor site on the cell membrane made just for it. It’s like a little garage made especially for one kind of car.
It’s an incredibly intricate and brilliant design.
Hormones are involved in every physical, mental, and emotional function, not just the feisty female ones. Boys and men wouldn’t exist without hormones. (Some say the same is true of boys and men without women, but I digress.)
Anyhow, the point of this little article IS actually related to “female” hormones and hormonal imbalances. It’s estimated that close to 90% of the women in this country experience some type of hormonal imbalance or dis-regulation. Wow! You’d think, with that many of us afflicted, that medicine would have come up with some solid solutions by now.
Conventional medical treatment often involves hormone replacement therapy, or giving birth control pills, or removing parts of the female reproductive system, or some other way of altering hormone production. For some, this might be the solution.
Some women opt to forgo these treatment approaches and, instead, choose seemingly safer options like bio-identical hormone replacement or over-the-counter progesterone creams or various self-medicating options. Most are still attempting to alter or balance the hormones themselves (estrogen and progesterone being the two biggies).
Here’s a twist to the plot: What if our hormonal issues weren’t actually “hormonal” at all? What if the cause of the hormone imbalance was actually deeper,or “higher upstream”, so to speak? What if the vast majority of them were actually related to toxicity?
In that case, how would artificially tweaking our hormone levels have any real, or lasting success? Right. It wouldn’t for an overwhelming number of women. In fact, if you’re not addressing the cause of the hormonal dis-regulation in the first place, you could be creating even more trouble for yourself.
Here’s a brief physiology lesson that will help explain why toxicity must be considered as a potential cause of hormone issues (and countless additional health issues):
Your endocrine system is the system responsible for secreting various hormones throughout the body. This system is under the control of the pituitary, which is under the control of the hypothalamus – both in your brain. Your pituitary also regulates other major endocrine glands such as your thyroid and adrenal glands. Your hypothalamus/pituitary is like the “Houston Control Center”!
There are some toxins that are capable of crossing your “blood brain barrier” and can wreak havoc on this control center. One prevalent example is mercury. In case you didn’t know, mercury has no business being in our bodies, let alone our brains! Unfortunately, anyone who has silver dental fillings/amalgams (or if your mother had them while you were in the womb), who has been vaccinated, who has received the flu shot, who has worked in a dental office for a long period of time, etc. most likely has mercury in their system. Studies demonstrate that this mercury has an affinity for the hypothalamus/pituitary area of the brain. When mercury tweaks the integrity of your “control center”, the output from that control center is altered. i.e. hormone production and balance.
Additional research has shown that biotoxins from mold or Lyme’s, for example, cause a decrease in certain hormones that are essentially at the top of the hormone cascade, thus affecting the production of every other hormone down the road.
Toxins don’t just ‘swim upstream’ and negatively affect the brain. They affect various tissues and glands throughout the body, as well. For example, mercury can bind to the specific receptor site for selenium on your thyroid. Remember I mentioned that those receptor sites are supposed to be reserved for the specific hormone it was made for in order for the desired outcome to happen? The garage is made for only one kind of car.
Well, toxins sneak in and take over the garages, so the intended car (hormone) has nowhere to go. Can you imagine how these freely circulating hormones might throw off your laboratory results?
Worse yet, your immune system may begin to (accurately) see this new bond that has been created as something foreign and unwelcome, and therefore begin to attack your body’s own thyroid tissue. When the immune system does this, it’s known as an “autoimmune” condition.
When it comes to “female” hormones, estrogen balance is of critical importance, particularly in our modern day lifestyle. Several environmental toxins alter our estrogen balance and negatively effect the ratio of “good” to “bad” estrogens. One example,is plastics. The BPA and phthalates found in plastics both mimic estrogen and can lead to estrogen dominance. Does this sound all-too-common when it comes to breast cancer?
Other common environmental triggers for estrogen and other hormonal imbalances are: pesticides, steroids, and antibiotics, to name just a few. We are exposed to more toxins now than at any other time in our known history.

Sexual Health Issues of Women Men Must Know

Sexual Health Issues of Women Men Must Know
When I was young and witnessed the coming of five more siblings, (1 girl and 4 boys), I thought there was not much big deal in being a wife aside from taking care of the house and, of course, delivering babies and taking care of them.
This did not change even when I got married and, together with my wife, started planning our family.
This ignorance, to my chagrin, is not, by any means, solely confined in me. I can hardly hear men, other than those in the medical profession, talk of other things about women, except that which they are most interested in – sex.
Having an OB-Gyne (Obstetrics and Gynecology) for a daughter enlightened me somewhat. Now I am a little bit educated in the sexual health needs of women and more considerate in this aspect (I don’t insist on sex when she is “unsafe”).
And you should, too, if you want to get the most out of your relationship. You should know that beyond being just a companion and a carrier of your sperm, your spouse, companion, mate or whatever, will be delighted if you can show a little concern and understanding of the various sexual health issues she will surely encounter, especially when years start piling up on her.
Some of these are:
Gynecological concerns:
Gynecology is a branch in medicine that deals with the diseases and disorders of the female reproductive system, i.e., uterus, vagina, ovaries, breasts, etc.
Unknown to most men, women can have any of the following gynecological disorders – endometriosis, ovarian cyst, fibroid, and vaginitis, among others. .
Or any of the more serious and lethal forms of gynecological cancers like cervical, endometrial andovarian.
Deaths from these health issues are avoidable through lifestyle changes and regular Pap smear, which a lot of women take for granted, and men ignore..
Painful intercourse:
If your partner tells you that it hurts to have sex, she may be telling the truth and not just putting you off. She could be having dyspareunia – painful vaginal penetration.
It is not a health issue by itself but could be a symptom of more serious medical condition or other phsychosocial problems.
Rather than look for someone to take you in without pain, have your partner visit a physician. Don’t ruin your long term relationship for short term gratification.
Menstruation and breast health: Menstruation is a signal that says a woman is already ready for pregnancy. It is the process by which the endometrium lining of the uterus is shed from the body, thus producing a woman’s monthly “period”. For men, it is sexual abstinence, unless one doesn’t mind getting bloodied all over. Other than that, guys generally have no idea, or don’t care, that not all women are created equal in matters of menstrual cycles. Some experience dysmenorrhoea, or painful periods, while others have irregular periods, discharges too much or too little blood.

Breasts After Nursing

Breasts After Nursing
When you become a mother, it is the best thing you experience in your life. Your child now needs your attention. Talking about the feeding technique some women breast feed their children on other hand some women use the bottle feeding technique. Breast feeding the child increases the size of breasts. The breasts start sagging.
Some women opt for surgery. This aint good for the women, as the skin around the breasts would start hanging making it look worst. Also have a proper posture. This also helps in maintaining your breasts and body. Even if you are sitting or standing have erect posture.
Women often feel uncomfortable due to this. The breasts sagging or breasts augmentation occurs due to weight gained or lost during pregnancy, due to the genes present in the body of the women, breast feeding the child. It can also occur due to the hormonal changes in the body. To give them the shape you need to perform certain tasks. These tasks are nothing but exercises.
You should start exercises while you are pregnant. But make sure you consult with your doctor. Perform light yoga exercises. To shape the breasts you need to tighten your skin around the breasts. You cannot shape your breasts since they do not contain any muscles but you can make them firm and it is difficult to reshape them.
Tightening your skin around the breasts helps in making the breasts firm. You can perform pushups since it is not the easiest exercise but it helps to build the muscles behind the breasts tissues which would boost your breast forward a little.
Perform dumbbell exercises by taking two dumbbells of any weight (depends on your strength). Lift the dumbbells and hang it on your sides and flap your hands like the birds flap their wings. This builds your muscles near the chest in the breasts area.
Perform bench press with light weight, this helps as and when you are inclined and the angle formed helps to target the right muscles of your chest. Use the weight that you are comfortable with. Bring the bar of the weight close to your chest and lift the bar. Repeat this continuously.
